Mayor Isko to Personally Crack Down on Corrupt Traffic Enforcers in Manila
Manila Mayor-elect Isko Moreno Domagoso announced that he will personally oversee operations targeting corrupt traffic enforcers in the city, reviving a hands-on approach he previously employed during his time in office.
Domagoso recounted how he used to disguise his vehicle while patrolling Roxas Boulevard at dawn to avoid detection by traffic enforcers allegedly extorting money from cargo and delivery truck drivers entering the city.
He vowed to reimpose a strict “one-strike policy” against those caught extorting money, saying offenders will not only be dismissed from service but will also face criminal charges.
Domagoso also urged delivery truck operators and drivers to report incidents of extortion not just by traffic enforcers but also by city hall personnel and officials. He emphasized that complaints can be brought directly to him without fear.
“Open governance naman tayo. In the past during my time, nakakapasok naman sila sa city hall, small and big businesses ordinaryong tao, nakakausap ako,” said Isko.
He assured the public that the identities of whistleblowers will remain confidential to ensure their safety.
Domagoso added that he will reactivate his social media channels to accept direct messages from those with information or complaints, promising anonymity and swift action.
“Nagamit ko na noon ng husto yan kaya hindi nila ko nato-tolongges, mga taga city hall o alinmang enforcement unit, civilian man o uniform personnel,” he said.
