Southern Leyte Governor Damian Mercado officially inaugurated the province’s first-ever Provincial Skate Cup, a two-day event celebrating the 65th Founding Anniversary of Southern Leyte. The competition is being held at the Maasin Recreational and Skate Park.
“The Provincial Skate Cup 2025 officially commenced as a two-day event held at the Maasin Recreational and Skate Park, in celebration of the 65th Founding Anniversary of the Province of Southern Leyte,” stated Governor Mercado during the opening ceremonies.
The event has drawn skaters from various parts of the province, eager to demonstrate their skills. “Skaters from across the province gathered to showcase their talent, agility, and creativity through dynamic runs and impressive tricks,” the governor added, highlighting the participants’ diverse abilities.
A significant crowd of spectators and supporters attended the opening, underscoring the increasing popularity of skateboarding within the region. The turnout reflects a growing interest in the sport not only as a competitive activity but also as a creative outlet, particularly among the youth of Southern Leyte.
